Two weeks ago, I had my baby shower thrown by my best friend Shay with help from my sister, Maya and friends Dom and Moh. I was super excited because my mom came down from VA and I got to see so many good friends that I haven't seen in a while.
I kept it simple as far as clothes were concerned for the sake of comfort in the sweltering heat and my growing belly. I found this ivory lace dress at Macy's and paired it with my favorite J.Crew necklace that Hubs got me for our wedding anniversary last year. Simple but it was exactly the kind of look I wanted for the occasion.
The best part about the shower? I had to do NOTHING. I can't thank my loved ones enough for yelling at me and Type A personality (thanks, Shay) and ensuring that I had nothing to do with my shower but showing up and having a good time. The shower ended up being at my best friend's apartment clubhouse which was really perfect. It was such a nice location that you didn't need much to make it look great. And there was so much space!
We played games - not just your typical baby shower games - but we played my favorite, Taboo (but the baby shower edition). Me and Hubs take game nights at our house seriously so I love that this was incorporated. We also played the standard "guess what melted chocolate bar is in this diaper" game which is visually pretty gross but people take it very seriously. LOL.
We ate of course - obviously one of my favorite parts. My girls kept a great balance of both American and African sweets and eats. Shay made the most delicious cupcakes ever, while Moh made a Liberian favorite, milk candy - which similar to a toffee - and coconut candy.
Then it was time to open gifts which I was so grateful for. Everyone wrote the kindest words in cards for me, Hubs & #Babyologie which naturally made me cry. I am just so happy. The fact that everyone thought of #Babyologie and took time out of their day to celebrate her upcoming arrival. I can't thank everyone enough.
A special thanks to Maya, Shay, Dom, Moh & everyone who came to the shower and made it such a special day!
