So, a couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of being invited to speak at The Cotton Summit at Mississippi State University. Essentially, The Cotton Summit is a fantastic workshop/conference brought to specific colleges by Cotton University (which is Cotton, Inc.'s college initiative). The Cotton Summit discusses how cotton affects the fashion industry to give students an insider look of entering the fashion world. At the Mississippi State, the inaugural Cotton Summit was hosted by the College of Human Sciences and I got to meet an array of marvelous people.
The roster of speakers was an impressive (and made me ask the inevitable self conscious "um, what am I doing here?"). From Joe Blair of Individualized Apparel Group, Maria A. D'Andrea of the International Trade Administration, Ashley Thorton of Cotton, Inc., April Cobb of Modern Yardage, Winki Allen & Lesley Livingston of United Knitting High Performance Fabrics. Everyone was so freakishly kind - from the speakers to the faculty to the students. They really made our stay in Starkville quite the treat.
The Cotton Summit was three days - Tuesday through Thursday - and I spoke on Thursday. I gave a lunch keynote on "The Future of Online Marketing & Promotion" and did two breakout sessions on "Online Presence". I really wasn't sure how my content would be received since blogging isn't traditionally taught in colleges (yet), but I had a great turnout and created fabulous dialogue with the students.
A huge thank you to my Mississippi State hosts for having me and Hubs for the week! Specific shootouts to Charles, Caroline, Dr. Newman, Bailey, Hannah, Kelcey & all the students I met throughout the week. You guys are seriously the best!
