The Number One Rule To Creating A Perfect Social Media Bio

The Number One Rule For The Perfect Social Media Bio If you're like me, then you've spent way too long on creating a clever Twitter bio or making yourself sound too important on Instagram. It's fine. We all do it. We want people to follow us and our social media bio is sort of like a first date with our potential follower.

So what do you say? Is their a special formula? A special sauce you can pour on words to make followers just jump on your bandwagon? It's certainly a challenge with the character limit most social media channels have in their bio sections. So I'll let you in on a little secret. A great social media bio isn't about being accomplished. Or important. Or even "smart."

The number one rule to creating the perfect social media bio is being interesting.

Yes. INTERESTING. You need to leave people wanting more. Interesting enough to where you make someone click on your URL to really learn about you. I've made the mistake in the past of coming up with an over decorated multi-hyphenate title for myself to appear more important in the social media space. People don't care if you're important. Over if you have a fancy job. They want to know that you're interesting enough to watch. Interesting enough to engage with. Interesting enough to follow. It's just like dating. Sure, things like common interests and occupation matter a little later, but in the beginning you want to be around someone that's interesting enough to keep your attention.

In my opinion, the most interesting things about me are:

  • being a mom and wife
  • being a former beauty queen
  • being a blogger
  • building my personal brand

However, if I just listed it out like that, it would be devastatingly boring and unoriginal. So I tried to find a way to tie it altogether. Here's what I came up with:

I managed to mention all of that by tying in transition phrases with the word "time" and sprinkling a little wit reflective of my personality. It's nothing groundbreaking, however it is interesting enough to intrigue a new follower to click my URL. And as a blogger, that's my goal.

So what are the most interesting things about you? How can you say it in about 150 characters or less without being boring? Once you figure that out, you've probably got yourself the perfect social media bio.
