What Consistent People Do That Others Don't

What Consistent People Do That Others Don't Can I be honest?

Blogging everyday has been hard. Like one of the greatest challenges of my professional career easily. Especially because I don't have a boss or manager to penalize me if I don't. I had to whip myself into shape mentally and raise the bar. Even when I didn't feel like it. And then it clicked. I realized what consistent people did that other people did not:

Consistent people get things done even when they don't feel like it.

Let's keep it real. I know that Beyonce does not want to work out everyday, but she gets it DONE. I imagine that she pushes past her feelings and focuses on her overall goal: to be the greatest. And that's the kind of commitment it takes. The kind that no matter how much you don't feel like doing it, you still do it because of your mental toughness.

To be mentally tough, it takes a focus that is unmatched and a commitment that is unbreakable. You have to avoid complaining. You have to accept mistakes as lessons. Inc.com has an amazing piece on grit + mental toughness.

Consistency means you have to keep going even when it gets hard.

Most people don't make their dreams come true because it's hard. To stay motivated daily is a task in itself. It seems impossible because most people aren't committed enough to not only meeting expectations but surpassing them. If I told you I was going to blog everyday, that might seemed impressive. To blog 3-4 times everyday?! Insane. But if you knew the kind of level I was trying to reach, you'd completely understand.

Here are 5 things to remember when you're trying to be consistent:

  • feelings are temporary
  • you'll probably need more time than you think
  • wanting it is not enough; commit to it, then work for it
  • daily ritual is imperative
  • don't go for perfection; aim for progression

So, this isn't a post about how easy it is to be consistent. There is no shortcut to consistency. It is just as tough as you think it is, if not more. But the same goes for you. You are tougher than you think you are.
