Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging on Mattieologie.com in January 2010. I originally started blogging as a hobby in 2008 on the Blogger platform (before purchasing my dot com). You can find my hobby blog here.

Is this your full time job?

Yes. But it wasn't always that way. I kept a 9 to 5 job as a home decor showroom manager for 4 years before going full time with Mattieologie in June 2015.

How do you make money blogging?

I make money with Mattieologie through brand partnerships, affiliate links, product & merchandise and courses & masterclasses.

Are you on social media?

Yes. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, Snapchat, and Periscope all @Mattieologie.

What kind of camera do you use?

I use a Canon 6D with a 24-105mm lens.

Who takes your pictures?

My photographer, Kaye. Sometimes Hubs or a member of the Mattieologie team will take photos and I note when they do. Otherwise, I take all photos for the site.

How did you build your following?

Honestly, there's no secret serum but I think that being consistent in posting and present on social media helped. I also post about things I love and actually know about.

I just started a blog. Can you give me some advice?

Be consistent and more importantly yourself! And if you have specific questions, my podcast answers a slew of blogging, branding and business questions. You can also enroll in one of my masterclasses. I have one each month.

How do you pick brands to work with?

Brands and PR companies email me daily with pitches and releases of products. I generally only pick 10-15% of the things pitched (yep, I turn down 85-90% of them) because I'm only interested in brands and products that fit the Mattieologie brand and aesthetic.

Can I interview you for a school project?

While I am flattered that you'd like to know more about me and what I do, my schedule currently doesn't allow me to do this.

Do you give consultations?

I don't currently offer one on one consultations, but I do offer "mentoring" aka influence/content coaching for influencers, bloggers, and small business owners. You can see the packages I offer here.
