This year one of my blog goals is to focus more on my blog life mantra, Live What You Love. I really do believe in it and I try to share that through my content here on Mattieologie. But what I really love is seeing other live what they love. It motivates me to do the same in my own way for my life.
One person who has been incredibly motivating and inspiring to me is my sister, Maya. She is only 24 but runs a successful branding + consulting business with BRNDWCH and delivers kick ass content on her blog, MayaElious.com. When I decided to start this Live What You Love aka #LWYL feature, I knew that I wanted her to be the first one I featured because she fearlessly lives what she loves through her business and by developing encouraging content regularly, she allows others to do the same.
Tell us about who you are and what you do for a living.
My name is Maya Elious, and I help passionate business owners excel in their career by teaching them how to make their businesses valuable. I do this through consulting via my blog MayaElious.com and through web design and branding with my business BRNDWCH.
I also have a new online course called Blogademics on how to build, brand and monetize your blog.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Honestly, each day is different. Lately, I've joined some networking groups and decided to start working out again so my schedule now includes those activities. If I wake up early enough, I'll go to the gym and get a workout in. Because I don't typically begin my work day until 9:00 a.m., I have some time to catch up on magazines, newsletters and reading creative blogs. Those things boost my creativity so thats how I truly enjoy beginning my day.
Following that, I check my email. The items marked unread go onto my things to do list. It gives me an idea of what my day will look like. It's important that I'm organized or else I'll become flustered and get very little done. I listen to iTunes Pure Pop or Top 50 Alternative radio station to keep me focused. Lately I've been listening to Best of 2014 POP. I get distracted VERY easily so music helps to keep me entertained while working.
My sister also usually calls me by 10:00 a.m. and we'll talk about business ideas. It sounds dry but this truly entertains us. I'll usually kick her off the phone by 11:00 a.m. and we'll just continue our conversations through iMessage. Ha!
Depending on my work load, I'll try to get a blog post in before my break at 2:30 p.m. During my break I'll do something random away from my computer until 3:15. That usually entails another phone call with my sister (I don't actually catch a break from her). Somehow between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. I'm actually getting work done. Monday nights I have Toastmasters at 6:45 p.m. I usually break from 6:00 - 8:30 and work until I fall asleep. I found that it's hard for me to "relax" while at home.
My office is footsteps away from my bedroom so I always feel like I could be getting something done. The only time I'm not working is if I'm not inside the house. While I enjoy having structure in my life, my schedule isn't very uniform. I'm always looking for new ways to build my business so each week is different.
What is it that you're passionate about?
I'm passionate about helping people make money doing what they love. The thing about being passionate about something is that it's something you would do even if you weren't getting paid. But realistically, we all have bills to pay. If we can get paid doing what we're passionate about, we can cut out the time working at a job that we hate and focus on doing more of what we love. Why split having a job and having a passion? I say combine the two and make it work for you. Most people don't know how to achieve that and that's where I come in.
What inspires you?
My clients inspire me. Love and passion inspire me. I work with people who are extremely passionate. Whether it's a life coach looking to help someone discover their purpose, a finance coach looking to help people alleviate financial stress, or someone who wants to help people live a physically healthy lifestyle by making and selling cold-pressed organic juices, those are the type of people that inspire me. My clients are passionate people that have a love for helping others. The longer I can help keep my clients make money and stay in business, the more people get the help they need. It's a win for everybody.
How do you incorporate what you love in your daily routine?
I incorporate what I love in my daily routine by only working with passionate people. I'm very particular about the projects that I take on. Accepting projects that don't fulfill my desire can become mentally and emotionally draining.
What are your go to apps and websites/blogs you use/read everyday?
I don't have much time to read blogs as I want to so I'm really big on newsletters. I'm subscribed to Social Triggers by Derek Halpern, MelanieDuncan.com, Shay Cochrane.com and Bidsketch by Ruben Gamez. I also really enjoy reading and listening to ByRegina.com, JessLively.com, and MarieForleo.com.
What's your favorite part about your day?
My favorite part of the day is walking into my office when it's extremely bright outside. A sunlit room warms my heart. It's my favorite thing ever.
What's your favorite thing about being Maya?
I love how transparent I am. My transparency allows me to remain humble. I share my failures and I share my successes. I want people to be able to learn from me, and that can't happen if I only share pieces of my life. When I share stories about myself it has very little to do with me and almost everything to do with my reader.
The one thing you're absolutely grateful for each day:
Jeez. It's hard to pinpoint one thing. God has blessed me with SO much. I thank God for making me an exceptional woman. My drive and work ethic allows for me to live a life of abundance. That abundance flows into all of my important relationships, and for that I'm absolutely grateful.
What does "live what you love" mean to you?
Live what you love means living a life that is centered around your passion or purpose. It is my full intention to inspire someone to create a life that they're passionate about. Every time I do that, I am serving my purpose. Live what you love means not having to fulfill your passion on a part-time basis because you're working or doing something you dislike to make a living. It means doing what fulfills your deepest desires in all aspects of your life - career, finances, romance, etc.
