I've written about my personal morning routine here on the blog before. The earlier the better for me - not that I'm at all a morning person. But my mornings typically start at 5-5:15a EST where I journal, read and workout. Also, coffee is a must. Then I knock out a couple of emails before getting baby and Hubs ready for their day.
Then I get ready. This is the part I want to talk about.
I don't know what it is, but for the last year and a half I've been very OCD about my skin care routine. It's important to me that not a drop of makeup is on my face when I go to bed - I don't care how tired I am. I'm also obsessed with moisturizer and oils. But I think it's this kind of attention to detail in my beauty routine that has me looking better in my 30's than I did in my 20's.
First things first, I start the day off with 8-10 oz of water. Adequate hydration is such a beauty secret that we sleep on but I'm so woke nowadays. I also drink cold water, because it makes your metabolism work harder - water has to be room temp before you digest it. I usually do this to wake up (water on my face isn't enough) and go into my journaling, meditation, working out, etc.
Once it's time for me to get ready, I wash my face using my Clinique Sonic Brush and my Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash. I use this cleansing brush every single day with whatever cleanser I'm using at the time. I know they say you shouldn't exfoliate daily because it's too much for your skin, but my skin has benefitted from it. (Also, Beyonce's dermatologist says she exfoliates daily and HAVE YOU SEEN HER SKIN?!) Because I have larger pores, making sure they get a deep clean is a major key.
After I wash, I pat "dry" my face with a damp washcloth, because I don't want my skin to actually be dry when I moisturize it. I usually will tone my skin with lavender witch hazel or a skin mist like the Josie Maran Nirvana Hydrating Treatment Mist. This step in between washing and moisturizing gives my skin an extra boost.
Lastly, I moisturize with my Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil. Yes, even in the morning/day. Because it's an amazing moisturizer and preps your skin for make up like no other. And also, retinol. (Who is my beauty BFF.) Usually, I mix a couple of drops of the oil in with my Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer because it has SPF. I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK, WHAT RACE YOU ARE OR HOW YOUNG YOU THINK YOU ARE YOU SHOULD BE WEARING SPF EVERYDAY NO MATTER THE SEASON. Find a moisturizer that at least has SPF 25. (The one I wear has SPF 47.) If I'm having a no makeup day, I will save the oil for the evening or solely wear the moisturizer.
By this time, it's time to hydrate again. I'll usually try to knock out another 2 cups of water or at the very least, a cup of green tea. My favorite is the TAZO Green Ginger tea. It has hints of pear that literally get you in a good mood instantly. (If I'm out of green tea, I'll do hot water with lemon.)
And that's it. My morning beauty routine. What rules do you absolutely live by when getting ready for your day in the morning?
